The reason why most people get acupuncture isn’t because they believe in Qi and stuff like that, it’s because it just feels good.
Qi is apparently so SUBTLE science has never found it. Silly mythologising – this is no basis for medicine. Acupuncturists are not trained in medical diagnosis and can do far more harm than good. Consumer beware! See a real doctor!
it works but it really hurts
Then why does the American Medical Association say it’s an effective form of treatment? Why do some medical schools like UCLA teach it? Just because we don’t know the reasoning behind HOW it works you can’t automatically say it’s placebo.

lol my dear friend BoredNL you are a victim of quack acupuncture. Have one session with my doctor and she will make you feel the chi. Believe its very obvious. She does a heart point on the back and you will feel the chi go to your heart. You will feel your heart. I have spent thousands on her. I wouldnt do that if the effects were not obvious. Its just that no one can do it. I visited 15 different acupuncture doctors in london. All 15 failed to get the chi. Its there though.
Ok, so basically this is all about feeling taken care of and being given an excuse to relax.
Has this “chi” ever been observed by anybody or any instrument such as an MRI? Of course not. 5,000 years ago human beings worshiped the sun and drilled holes in each other’s heads to let out evil spirits. To rely on the primitive thoughts of ancient cultures to cure disease, which we now know the causes of, is irresponsible at best. This person would’ve spent her money more wisely at a spa..
Acupuncture has been practised for thousands of years. It is used for many varying treatments. It is also being used for cosmetic purposes as a safer alternative to such treatments as botox and injectible fillers.

Listen to me very carefully. This video is a perfect demonstration of how acupuncture is mis practiced in the western world. ACUPUNTURE IS NOT PUTTING IN A NEEDLE AND LEAVING IT FOR 20 MINS LIKE AN IDIOT. The needle must be manipulated in a vigourous and strong way until a shock of chi is felt. Then the point is unblocked and mental and physical rewards occur. YOU WESTERN QUACK ‘PROFESSIONALS’ GIVE ACUPUNCTURE A BAD NAME. This video proves that these ‘professionals’ have no idea what to do
As acupuncturists we have to study Chemistry, biochemistry, all levels of Human Disease processes, all body systems of the biology of the human body, anatomy and the tcm subjects along with precise point location, Nutrition the list goes on, it’s damn hard. Some general practitioners have swapped over to this tcm modality and admit that even they with thier western medical training find the degree in acupuncture very hard. Acu is soon to be one of the most widely accepted complementary medicines
They may be able to do acupuncture without certification but do they have any understanding of what is does, Qi, 5 element theory or TCM concepts and Taoism? No I believe not. We (acupuncturists), are fighting for recognition here in Australia at the moment through the legal system and I believe we will win. You cant just go sticking needles in people willy nilly. eg. some points stimulate oxytocin which bring on labour, used at the right time to induce this is great but at the wrong time V bad.
TCM theory is far from being nonsensical. It is an allegory for what is happening in the body. All TCM practitioners have been trained in western medical theory, as well as standard anatomy and physiology and pathophysiology. We have also been trained in Western Medical pharmacology. The allegory is that the body is a microclimate, and that treatment is to remedy climatic disturbances; wind, heat, cold, etc. To think that Western medicine theory isn’t allegory, is nonsensical, as well.
Hey Quack, you should get your facts straight. Certification is not voluntary, States license acupuncturists; in all but a few, this is mandatory; 5 states license as doctors of oriental medicine, and recognize oriental medicine as a complete system of medicine, on par with western medicine. The Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree is a first professional degree, on par with MD, JD, or DC. Most programs are 36-40 months.
I’m going next week to try acupuncture for my migraines. I’ve had them for for last 10 years! I can’t wait to give this a try. Can I ask you if you’re still going, and if you feel it is still helping? Any advice or questions I should ask? Thank you for your time. I’m glad it’s helping you.

In which country? Because in the US, all an AP practitioner needs is to comply with the State or the NCCAOM licensure, which just requires the applicant to pay a fee, be over 21 and to have obtained education from a “certified” institution. In some cases they require nurse or physician assistant degree, never an MD.

In USA you can be an acupuncturist practitioner without any formal studies. Certification standards for practitioners where they exist are voluntary, and might some have legal significance, they are not based on scientific validity of what is taught. Put in other words, certification of acupuncturists is a sham. The training needed for certification is based on nonsensical TCM theories.
In order for Acupuncture to work, I guess we have to believe in Chi…
I had acupuncture for migraines and it helped alot =]. Although it can be quite expensive to have.
Acupuncturists study for 4 years post grad and can stay on for a phd as well. We study for 3800 hours (slightly more than MDs) but less clinical hours since we don’t do surgery. Beware chiros and mds can take a 1 or 2 weekend course and “do acupuncture” APs take a national board exam and then meet state Dept of health requirements for licence as well as CEUs on a regular basis. No need to believe in anthing (do you believe in western med) since it works on animals just as well.
Actually acupuncture works great on animals. It is a growing field of vet work…I’m gonna guess that most cats, dogs and horses don’t believe in Acupuncture. That said about 50% of all healing is placebo…Do you believe in western medicine????
Training for AP is 3800 hours of acd time (slightly more than an MD) and 900 hrs of clinic time. MDs and chiros only do a days of training. APs are lic. nationally and by the state. MS degree and now PhD programs.
what kind of study must somebody undertake to become an acupuncturist, is it a university degree? I would feel a tad nervious about somebody sticking needles in me who hasn’t recieved the correct training.
